Sleepless?
In next month's newsletter, look for an article on practical easy steps to improve your sleep. Meanwhile, here is a simple and lovely blessing that's nice to say at bedtime. It puts you into a really accepting and happy frame of mind-a great way to begin and end the day. A big thanks to my friend Nancy Drewitt (Bramble) for sharing her unique approach to overcoming insomnia, based on the Buddhist practice of Mettas.
Blessings at Bedtime
Ever have one of those upsetting times when, instead of sleeping, you replay an angry moment again and again? Ever let being triggered or disturbed by someone get in your way? Need help defusing yourself? Here's something simple that can really help.
While quiet and grounded, with your intention, say these blessings, first to yourself:
"May you be happy
May you be peaceful
May you be healthy
May you be filled with love
May you follow your joy"
Then, repeat them to each of the following, in turn:
Someone you love or are close to
Someone you are neutral toward
Someone you dislike
The world.
Repeat the process, until you feel calmer and more peaceful. This can help during the day, especially when triggered emotionally. It can also help at night. Can't hurt! Give it a try.
